It was February 12, 2008. My daughter Wendy was very tired of winter and was longing for spring. I mean she was really looking forward to it!
And then the idea came to me. I decided to play a song on my site, hoping it would cheer her up. I called it a Smile Song and I had no intention of doing it again.
The reaction to the song was better than I had anticipated so I decided to do another one … and then another and another. Before long, Smile Songs became a regular routine and over time, they morphed into 50s Smile Songs, 60s Smile Songs, #1 Smile Songs, and eventually, Medleys of songs.
I have counted up those individual Smile Songs (over 2,000 of them) and Medleys (over 2,100 of those … and counting) and all of it started because a father wanted to cheer his daughter up on a cold winter day 15 years ago.
Today I dedicate this one-song “medley” to Wendy and go back to that one song that started it all. ❤️

The First Smile Song
But wait! I couldn’t leave it alone! After all the nice comments yesterday saying you actually enjoyed longer medleys, I couldn’t play a one-song medley and leave it at that.
That’s why this archived medley contains 14 songs and lasts over 42 minutes. It isn’t one of those medleys that will have you saying “I don’t remember this song” (at least it shouldn’t). All but two songs reached the Top 10 back in 1967. Of the other two, one peaked at #15 and the other is an iconic album cut.

Looking Back At 1967
Grass Roots – Tommy James
Mamas & Papas – Scott McKenzie
Monkees – Bobbie Gentry
Lovin’ Spoonful – Van Morrison
Dave Clark Five – Arthur Conley
Herman’s Hermits – Aretha Franklin
5th Dimension – Beatles
Holy moly! This was fabulous! I wouldn’t be surprised if I have lost my voice from singing so loudly with most of the songs. The smile song really made me smile, and thanks for that! But the rest oh my gosh, I could go on and on with The Mamas & The Papas and The Beatles, Tommy James, etc. I loved every bit of it and I will never complain about anything being too long. Thank you so much, on What is a very gloomy Wednesday, here with rain again! Enjoy your day and remember, “you’re the best!“🥰
I am so glad you enjoyed it, Sandy❤️ It was a last minute decision to add the medley. I’m glad I did! 🙂
Another great medley on this gloomy day! .. and thank you Wendy for the catalyst that started it all!!!!!!
Have a wonderful day my friend! Stay safe and warm!

“Killian loves hearing Papa’s memories.”
And that, my friend, is what it’s all about. ❤️❤️
2/23/2025 A day late but I actually listened to these yesterday. Ted & I had gone to Rutland for an appt. with my doctor at 8am to be told it is next Tues. We had breakfast at Denny’s, went to visit a friend & had a nice visit. Got home & Ted’s daughter called needing a ride to see a doctor so back to Rutland he went & then the school called to say her youngest daughter needed to be picked up, which was done. He then went to the same place where we had been earlier & waited for the both of them. He made it home & heard the last 2-3 songs of the ’67 medley. Didn’t comment then as it was time to prepare something to eat. Thank you & your Muse Wendy for the Smile song(s). Thank you Ray for the additional music & memories too. Lee
Sounds like one very tough day, Lee!
I hope the music helped calm some frazzled nerves, ❤
