Monday Music Marathon

We are all over the place today! More garage band rock, #1 songs on this date in pop, country, and R&B genres, and a pair of songs commemorating the birth of a civil rights icon.

I want to thank everyone who expressed good wishes for Dylan on Friday. He came through his hip surgery in very good condition and is on his way to a full recovery! Thank you all so much. ❤️

I have a 45 by Moms Mabley (not Dion) Nice Medley. Know a young couple who didn’t listen to Steve Lawrence’s advice. They married the following year (ages 14 & 16) & are still together today. Glad Dylan is doing well. A good day to you all. Thank you Ray 🙂 🙂 Lee & Ted

      Thanka, Lee and Ted 🥰
I remember Moms Mabley’s version of that song … Apparently that young couple got it right! ❤️
Thank you for the lovely comment about Dylan. ❤️

      Thank you, Nancy ❤️
I’m happy the music helped to start your week off right and I thank you for your lovely comment about Dylan. 🥰

Sorry to break the rules and be political, but 55 yrs later we still have not honored MLK’s dream…
    Thanks for the memories

Mary Helen, I have NO problem with anyone being “political” on this site. I will say we have made advances on his dream but there is still a long way to go.

Absolutely a terrific mix of memories to start out this work week for me! I will be sitting at my computer listening to it over and over…good thing others don’t sit in my office while I am working!
    Thank you, Ray!

Thanks, Jim! I’m glad you enjoyed this medley but here’s a warning. Tomorrow’s medley is 50 minutes long!

Great pick-me-up medley for a “Blue Monday”. Interesting that The Kinks 64 song was a big influence for garage bands. I remember a senior party where we had a band instead of a DJ or just a record player for the first time (1964). Glad to hear Dylan is doing fine.

      Thanks, Pat 🥰
That “rough” guitar sound on You Really Got Me had a powerful effect on young guitarists, including me. There weren’t many parties or dances with bands for us in 67 (and 68) until Fred’s band came along … and The Invaders were great!
Thanks for the kind words for Dylan. 🥰

Ray great tunes today..Had a bunch on my plate today but thank goodness for earphones!! I haven’t heard a Knickerbockers song in so many years they were pretty darn good!! Time won’t let me so true!! Don’t you love the words in Shakin’ all over??!! You are so right this is the soundtrack of our lives!!! Oh my goodness Gloria will be in my head all night!! Thanks pal!! Thank goodness you never promised me a Rose Garden but I’ll take the sunshine!! The Kinks really did get us garage bands going! Ray great choices to close this special day!! He is not forgotten and he did so much for equality in our life time!! This last song pulls at my heart and I still tear up!! It has been a long time coming and we still have a long way to go!! On a personal note thanks for bringing up the Invaders I really think we brought some great live music to the Area!! But most of all knowing Dylan is doing well made my day!
    Love ya!

Thank you, Fred, for a remarkable commentary! I am so pleased you found so much joy in the medley! On the other side of things, A Change Is Going To Come is one of the unsung songs of the civil rights movement, and I thought it had to be the one to close it.
I couldn’t talk about garage bands and not mention The Invaders. You guys rocked, big time!
Thank you so much for your kind words for Dylan. 🥰
      Love Ya!

This was so awesome, I’m running out of words, Ray I always enjoy everything that you pick, and because I’m an old girl in my heart, I usually know all the words. I especially enjoyed The earlier songs and certainly most of them I haven’t heard in quite some time. They always make me happy. I usually try to convey that to the cats because they’re usually sitting here with me while I’m listening! They liked this one a lot! Thanks for the tribute to Martin Luther King, that was great. I remember when I lived in San Jose, California, they used to have a freedom train that road up to San Francisco on every Martin Luther King holiday. . I’m always amazed at the different ways to express peoples feelings from different parts of the country. As usual, you did a fantastic job. You are the best! 🥰

      Thanks, Sandy 🥰
I went back and forth on including the MLK songs. I finally decided I HAD to play at least a couple of songs to honor him. I’m very glad you appreciated them. ❤️
