Let The Girls Play!

I will be the first to admit I haven’t always played enough music by female singers so I am attempting to remedy that this week.
Here are nine songs by nine incredible female artists (actually 10 artists but the song by Heart features Ann and Nancy Wilson.) There may be a song or two you don’t recognize but the point is even if you don’t recall ever hearing them before, the songs are great!

The torch has been passed. Linda, Sheryl, Bonnie, Susanna, Ann ,Nancy & Maria are some talented ladies. They express heartbreak & hope in a style that is uniquely their own. It is certainly very different than what we have heard in the past two days. The songs are more complex and the voices more plaintive. I enjoy them all but miss the excitement of their predecessors. To compare them, I feel like it is apples & oranges. I guess Sonny said it best, “The Beat Goes On”. Thank you Ray for assembling another fantastic group of songs for us to enjoy and kick start our day. As always, You Rock my Brother.

      Thanks, Don. 🙂
I’ll agree the “music” isn’t the same as the songs we heard from the 50s and 60s, but I was trying to show the growth in female singer-songwriters. I have one more days of females coming up and then Friday it will be “the boys are back in town” on Friday!
      Rock On, My Brother!

Funny, I can’t remember the lady writers. I know Leslie Gore, Carly Simon & Carol King. I guess Sherl Crow & the Wilsons maybe. Does Bonnie write? For some reason I just can’t be sure. I need to clear some brain space to fill it up with more trivia.

All of today’s singers wrote most of their own material, with the exception of Ronstadt. Adele is a prolific songwriter but today’s song was written by Bob Dylan.

Well, I have listen to this twice! It is so mellow and soothing. I just couldn’t get enough of it the first time around. What a difference we are hearing today compared to songs of yesterday. You can certainly see how things started changing, but women still had a fabulous role. This was grand I loved it, and definitely can go back and hear it again if I wish. Thanks Ray, so entertaining and so thoughtful of you! Rock on DJ!! 🥰🎶

      Thank you, young lady 🥰
Yep, women were showing their self-confidence and growth as artists. If that opening song by Vonda didn’t get you moving, nothing will. 🙂
      Rock On, Sunshine! 🥰

    More enjoyable voices
