Another Double Dose of Hits!

Every Wednesday you get a medley of 1950s rock and roll or pop hits, and another medley of Doo-Wop hits from that golden era.

This week the emphasis is on pop hits from the 50s in the first medley because that decade was a lot more than Elvis, Chuck and Little Richard.

And that Doo-Wop medley? It’s loaded with some of the genre’s biggest hits … and as you may be able to see in the photo below, a booth has been reserved for Fred G and Pat C because they both love the 50s and really love Doo-Wop!

Good Morning, Ray. Sweet. How long has it been since I have heard Jimmie Rogers? It seems like forever. Nice to hear him once more. Sam Cooke’s mellow delivery makes me think he is Rock’s Perry Como. I mean that in the most positive way. Effortless, smooth what else can be said about his style? Tab Hunter, movie star , heart throb, reciter of lyrics, that was enough for his female fans to swoon. Marty Robbins, pre gunfighter ballards, shows his softer side here and does it so well. Ritchie Valens, young, good looking, talented he had it all going on in his far to short career. Rest In Peace Ritchie. The Everly Brothers show how special family harmonies can be. There in nothing like it. So special.
Doo Wop will never die. How can I it? It is bare bones Rock & Roll.. The recipe is simple, a few guys and a song. Instruments optional. It is nice to hear these artists once again, radio has seemed to forget them but not here at the diner! Some were one hit wonders but what a hit! Thank you Ray for keeping the diner open for all of us to enjoy. I’ll be in my regular booth, pumping dimes into the tabletop Jukebox. . Rock on Ray

      Good Morning, Don.
So glad you enjoyed Jimmie. I included him as a way of honoring him following his recent passing. Your description of Sam Cooke’s vocal style was perfect! He was the rock and roll version of Perry Como. Nicely done!
Tab Hunter may have been all the things you mentioned but (IMO) the man could not sing. I only added him because his song hit #1. I much prefer Sonny James’ version but Tab was a rarity so he made the cut.
      Doo-Wop ’til you drop! 🙂
      ROCK ON, BRO!

A trip to the diner is just what we need to get over the hump of the week. It also warms us up and gives some relief from the cold. I enjoyed the first medley so much I went back for the second. A double helping of feel good songs is the perfect way to start the day! I will be taking them to go as well because they are in my head and keeping a satisfied smile on my face. Thanks for the service and here’s a tip: keep being YOU! 🙂 XOXOXOXO 🙂

      Thank, Wendyl:)
I’m thrilled to see you were warmed up by the music!
I love the food references sprinkled throughout your commentary. ❤️ They gave me a very big smile. 🙂

I know Wendy has said on occasion that she likes my comments but I love the way she loves you! (seems like a song lyric in there somewhere). Her affection for her Dad is what Gathers dream of. You go Wendy, I love to read about your love of your Dad. (this is getting complicated). Ray you are a Lucky Man ( more song titles).

Don, that is very, very kind of you. In two weeks, the Beatle Baby will be turning 50 and she has owned my heart since Day One.
I am a very lucky man.

Looking out of the Diner window watching the Comtu-Falls reminds me of the fun days we all had in Springfield!! Can I keep this seat every Wednesday Ray!! What I like about this music Ray is it just puts me in such a great place in my head! (Nancy is singing in the background!!) The stories are so fun. I ran all the way home, won’t you stay a little longer, Angel Eyes!! The vocals are so well harmonized the deep bass to the falsetto is just darn right pleasing to the ear!! And the dance moves wow!! She moved to the left she moved to the right I sure could spin a tale on this weeks picks!! Ray you move me!! Let’s all keep our young love and keep getting dressed up in that white sports coat and bring a pink carnation!! I’m ready for the dance!! And let that river flow!!

Sir Fred, I LOVE it! One of the best things about adding Doo-Wop to the medley mix has been discovering how much you enjoy it. I never had any idea! And all this time I thought you were the same rock and roll king you were back in the 60s.
Love the Comtu reference (there’s some memories, huh?) and your song connection was once again fantastic! 🙂
      ROCK ON, MY FRIEND!

I will be right there, with you, Fred. Love the commentary. Only thing missing is a fountain style Cherry Coke!!
