Let’s continue our look back at the music left to us by Canadian legends. Today I’m playing music which was more on the rock side of their legacies (although I won’t disagree with you if you insist that the first artist is not considered a “rock” star).
Because I am trying to limit these medleys to no more than 20 +/- minutes, here are just a few artists I didn’t have time to include: The Band, Five Man Electrical Band, Loverboy, Terry Jacks, Bryan Adams, Crash Test Dummies, Leonard Cohen, Alanis Morissette, Edward Bear, and Shania Twain.
So why did I include Paul Anka on this medley at the expense of the missing artists? Because rock star or not, he’s a damn music legend!
So much great music and so little time. This 20-minute limit is killing me! ๐
Today’s medley is once again dedicated to Aleeta G from British Columbia. ๐

Canadian Invasion Medley / Part 2
Paul Anka – Stampeders – Neil Young
Bachman Turner Overdrive – Steppenwolf – Rush
Ray I was going to Stampeders all over this when you mentioned there would be a Steppenwolf so I rushed to my cabinet looking for a silver bullet when much to my surprise my sweet city women reminded me it was ok!! As it turns out that sweet city women said you might have been in a Rush!! She said that you are usually in Overdrive and are always rockin in the free world!! She said I should think Young and Turner over to Paul Anka!!!
Fred, you absolutely crack me up! Love it!
ROCK ON!
Fred, you continue to out-due yourself. Laughing out loud!!
Good morning Ray, part 2 looks like fun.
Funny you mention not being able to include Five Man Electrical Band. I recall seeing them on a Double bill with Steppenwolf @ The Electric Factory in Philadelphia. I did not realize it was a Canadian show!
At last, Neil Young! I have waited for him to appear. Thanks.
As for RUSH, all three are interesting but Neil Peetโs story is crazy. Full of human, not rock & roll, tragedy and heartbreak. He is a prolific writer and aside from songs, his life story is super interesting. I have read them and they are fascinating. I know they look like mini phone books but you are sorry when they end. I highly recommend any of them.
Again, great work Ray. Thank you.
Thanks, Don.
You should be happy with this Sunday’s medley if you like Neil Young. It’s nothing but Neil on Sunday! I created it about a year ago but never published it for some reason.
Neil Peart was a master at his craft. His passing was not unexpected but still tragic. He was far too young.
Canโt wait for Sunday! I thought Sundays had turned Mellow. I must admit Neil can do mellow when he wants to. Prairie Wind is an example.
It’s mellow for the first 17 minutes. It’s not mellow for the next 22 minutes and it gets mellow again for the final 3 minutes. ๐
Thatโs Peart not Peet. Sometimes spell correction work, sometimes not….
Love Paul Anka and Neil Young. I guess I’m too old for the rest!!(Switched to listening to country, I think.
Thanks, Pat. Not every artist is popular with everyone. For what it’s worth, Neil Young is going to be the featured artist on Sunday. ๐
