Canadian Invasion!

They were a little late to the party but long after the British had (musically) invaded America, the Canadians struck from the north.

Armed with gifted singer/songwriters, Canadian musicians ranged from Country to Folk to Rock and left a lasting legacy. You might find yourself surprised by how many you may have thought were American!

There were so many hitmakers it was impossible to fit them into one day so I’m spreading it over the next two days and dedicating both medleys to Aleeta G. from British Columbia. That woman knows her music!

    Great idea, Ray.
Joni Mitchell she was a muse and heartbreaker to so many artists. Love her distinctive voice and statements.
I was working in a record shop when the Guess Who came on the scene. Everyone was trying to figure out who it really was. They seemed to think that because I worked “in the business “ I knew. Crazy.
I admit I forgot all about Daniel Powter. It shouldn’t because I really like his work.
Ann Murray has such a sweet and charming voice.
Gordon Lightfoot had so many wonderful stories to tell. I see where he was still out touring at about 90 years old! My all time favorite of all his songs is The Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
As long as you are all about Canada, can I expect some Neil Young tomorrow? He did just have a birthday last week.
Another fine set to start the day. Thank you Ray.

      Thank you, Don.
You certainly can expect to hear Neil tomorrow, along with Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Rush, Steppenwolf, The Stampeders, and one more who doesn’t exactly fit the “Rock” mode (but he’s a legend so I included him). There are so many Canadian greats I had to exclude because on the (mostly self-induced) time limit.
Speaking of birthdays, Gordon Lightfoot celebrated another one yesterday. I love his songwriting and man, I really love his voice.
So glad you enjoyed this one. Have a wonderful day!

Surprise about Joni being Canadian. The rest I knew, great artists and wonderful songs! I have always been a k.d.Lang fan. And Gordon…there are no words.

      You’re spot on about Gordon!

Thanks , looking forward to tomorrow’s selection!

Love, love, love this! I didn’t realize Joni or Gordon were from Canada. The title American Woman makes more sense to me. And to top it off, I personally love all of these songs! Thanks so much for this great theme! XOXOXOXO

      Thanks, Wendyl ❤️
Ah yes, a day with something new discovered. 🙂
When the Guess Who played at the White House in 1970 (at Tricia Nixon’s request), Pat Nixon specifically requested (demanded) that they not play that song. According to drummer Garry Peterson, the band was just fine with keeping American Woman off the playlist. “Our attitude was, ‘We’re here to entertain people and make them feel good. We’re not here to cause problems.'”
So glad you enjoyed he music!
      XOXOXOXO

Trying to catch up today. (Winterized our motor home & moved to our place at Lake St. Catherine). I have the place to myself today, so doing some cleaning while listening to music.
Beautiful songs today. Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot are just magical.
