We wrap up our look back at 1963 with nine more classic songs!
No “deep cuts” here because every single song should bring back a memory or two … and isn’t that what this is all about? π
All but one of the artists were American because U.S. radio stations were paying no attention to any other market … until December 26, 1963, when a British band released a single that changed EVERYTHING.

Vintage 1963 Medley / Part 5
Righteous Brothers – Surfaris
Little Peggy March – Crystals – Cascades
Lou Christie – Classics
Andy Williams – Beatles
Great set for a Friday Ray …. Listening this week (and I still have Part 4) has reminded me what a good year it was …. Wipe Out was one of my brother’s favorite songs and he would go around the house drumming as I’m sure many did … such a range of talent from the Righteous Brothers to Lou Christie – Andy Williams and then the intro of the Beatles arrived on the scene and changed music forever… definitely a good way to start this dark cold morning — Rock the Day my friend … thank you for another glimpse into the music of 1963!
Thank you, Barbara π
When I was the morning guy (alongside the lovely and talented Heather) at WCFR, my mother used to love it when I played Wipeout. She told me she used to dance when it was on … and she was in her mid 80s β€οΈ
I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing back the memories of another wonderful year in music!
Yeah, it’s a miserable day but we’re alive so…
ROCK THE SNOW!
You mother sounds like a fantastic woman Ray …. w
hat a great lady she must have been!

Listening to the Surfariis made me think how few instrumentals were big hits. I love them but I guess most people want to hear a vocalist.
Is it me or does Little Peggy seem desperate? Stalkerish? Almost creepy. Sorry Peggy.
The Crystals, once again, thank you Phil.
This week is the wrong time to sing about the rain! Been raining all week. Stop!
What is it about a falsetto voice that is so fascinating? Lou & Frankie rule!
Interesting that the Classics & Andy Williams would follow Lou. You could not find a more relaxed delivery. Nice contrast.
The excitement that the Beatles generated with I Want to Hold Your Hand was instant and enduring. What a moment in time.
You presented quite a week Ray, congratulations on a job well done.
Thank you, Don.
Yeah, Peggy did seem a little, um, eager … you couldn’t go wrong with Spector back then … I am glad you caught the shift in tempo between Lou and the Classics … and of course, I had to end it with the arrival of The Beatles as the year came to an end.
Thanks so much for listening all week and for the excellent commentaries!.
What a grand finale to the week. Loved all of these. Thanks for this great week of music, Ray.
Thank you, Pat. π
As always, it was my pleasure!
Barbara B. has requested a special medley for a special reason on Sunday and it is 100% country. π
Can’t wait to here it, Ray.
It’s been an incredible week with all these hits from within only one year! And then to end with The Beatles entering the scene….simply wonderful. It’s also offset this crappy cold weather we’ve had and really brightened my days! Thanks, Mr. Medley! XOXOXOXO
Thank you, Wendyl β€οΈ
Yep, this week of medleys turned out to be pretty darn good. Good point about offsetting the weather and I do hope it helped brighten listener’s days. As long as it picked you up, that’s good enough for me!
XOXOXOXO
Another excellent set Ray. Some good memories right there. I particularly enjoyed Andy Williams singing Canβt get used to loosing you. It has been a very long time since I have heard that one and it may have been my favorite of the set. Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks, Marty. I have always liked that Williams song, primarily because I thought he had a wonderful voice. More requested medleys coming up next week, starting with Barbara B’s on Sunday.
Feel free to send me 8-10 songs you’d like to hear. π
Have a nice weekend!
