The Halloween Medley

Nope, this isn’t one of those 20-minute medleys. It’s Halloween and I wanted to make sure you get in the mood! I had 13 songs picked out but left it at 12 because I didn’t want to bring bad luck to anyone. There’s some rock, some pop, and even a country song or two.
Nothing too frightening … I hope

Nice mix of artists & styles today Ray. Donovan’s voice sounds a little different to me, is this a different version than the hit? Johnny Cash is in fine form on Ghost Riders. I like the song and he sure owns it in his version. Santana is so smooth, I could listen to him all day. I don’t think I ever heard the Dickey Lee song before. Creepy. Nice to hear that Redbone has not been forgotten. Buck Owens, what a unique talent. He always seems to be having fun. It wouldn’t be Halloween without Bobby “Boris” Pickett. Jim Stafford’s images are amazing. When I saw his name I was thinking of Spiders & Snakes but this was really enjoyable. The spoken word piece reminds me of Ken Nordine, who I love. Thanks Ray, I really enjoyed this selection today.

      Thanks, Don. 🎃
Donovan’s song is the original (but remastered) recording. Dickey Lee’s Laurie (Strange Things Happen) peaked at #14 in 1965 but is all but forgotten today (probably for a good reason). The Stafford song is my favorite by him. It was a little more serious than his hit songs, but it was first Top 40 hit, peaking at #39.
And I LOVE Tom Waits’s song. It’s off his Mule Variations album. Funny you mention Nordine. In a 1999 interview, Waits said of this song: “It’s kind of tipping my hat to Ken Nordine, who was a big influence on me.”
      ROCK ON, BRO!

Ken Nordine is simply amazing. As someone who truly appreciates a good radio voice, he is in my top tier. Ronald Coleman and Howard Duff are two more that have such distinct voices that I also consider outstanding.

Happy Halloween Ray! What a great selection, some of which I don’t believe I’ve ever heard before. This had such an impact on me the whole time I was listening to it all I could think about was how fortunate I am to be a recipient of the hard work to put all this together. As my dad used to say, after a lovely meal or a beautiful drive in the country, “I wonder what all the ordinary people are doing tonight?” Made my day, have a rockin happy Halloween!

Hi Ray, Happy the Day after Halloween. I knew you’d do a Halloween post. Listened to it today while checking out some of my 1600’s ancestors. I have one who was accused of being a witch. Enjoyed your medley& it seemed fitting while I was researching the family tree. Haven’t been commenting a lot but your always my musical go-to guy 🙂

What a perfect mix; Halloween music and witch research. Glad the music helped. ❤️
